The Ranks of The Crooked Canyon - Crooked Canyon Pride
The Dominants
Dominant Male
"King"
DM
The dominant male of the pride is in control of the lions of the pride, and generally the entirety of it. What they say goes, and insubordination can result in whatever they see fit. The dominant male is the only one allowed to produce offspring with the lionesses of the pride, lest he allow other males in particular to produce offspring as well. He leads border checks, and chases off young adolescent males. The dominant male rank is earned through challenging the current dominant male, and succeeding. If lionesses in the pride currently have newborn cubs or are nursing, however, they may help the dominant male in order to save their offspring. The dominant male, while the leader of the pride, protects it's inhabitants and the cubs.
Secondary Male
"Duke"
SM
The secondary males of the pride are males close to the dominant male or have helped the dominant male takeover the pride. They have control over the subordinate males, and help the dominant male protect the pride. If the dominant male chooses not to lead a border check, it's their job to. They have the right to produce offspring.
Dominant Female
"Queen"
DF
The dominant female of the pride is in control of the lionesses of the pride, but still receives respect from almost all. She may lead hunts if she wishes and produce offspring with the dominant male. The dominant female rank may be earned by challenging the dominant female, or even overpowering the current dominant female with support.
Lead Huntress
"Countess"
Lh
The lead huntress of the pride leads hunts when the dominant female is absent or chooses not to, and is usually related or close to the dominant female. The lead huntress, when accompanying the dominant female on a hunt, carries out the dominant female's orders to the other lionesses. She is in control of a good portion of the lionesses in the pride.
The Subordinates
Subordinate Males
Sm
The subordinate males of the pride help the dominant male and secondary males protected the pride. They also accompany the others on border checks. Subordinate males may not produce offspring unless given permission, or have brawled for the right. They follow the dominant male and secondary males' words.
Subordinate Females
"Ladies of the Queen"
Ln
The subordinate females of the pride are the huntresses, and accompany the dominant female and lead huntress on hunts. They produce cubs with the dominant male(or secondary males), and provide food for the pride. They make up the majority of the pride, and follow the dominant female's/lead huntress' words.
Cub-Sitters
Cs
The cub-sitters of the pride are lionesses below the subordinate females. They are at the bottom of the pride, and must defend as well as take care of cubs within the den area while others are away. Like subordinate females, they produce cubs but hardly ever hunt when cubs or juveniles are present.
The Youths
Juveniles
Jv
The juveniles of the pride finally start partaking in hunts. They accompany the lionesses on their hunts and watch, sometimes even joining in. Juveniles can become quite rambunctious and wild at this time, which sometimes is a nuisance for those who wish for peace and quiet. Around this time, interest in producing cubs becomes present, which when juvenile males develop the dominant male typically chases them out. Juvenile females may also leave the pride if they wish.
Cubs
Cb
The cubs of the pride only task is to grow and to learn. They are between the age of a few months and one year. Cubs watch adults hunt and brawl, and spend their time play fighting and such to hone skills they'll need later on. They are the future of the pride, and so are protected and taken care of. Cubs that are not the offspring of the dominant male, or any other male in the pride, are chased out or killed.
